"A Tea Kettle with Spirit Burner finished in Electro Plated Nickel Silver"
SOLD
Wilson & Sharp, a very well known Edinburgh Company.
Pattern No: 1248 W & S trademark stamped
A very elegant tea kettle and stand with spirit burner, made to present tea on the drawing room table, and keep it hot. This item is finished in epns, a very popular material from the 1860’s onwards.
The kettle sits on its stand above the spirit burner which has its original wick incorporated in a hinged, domed snuffer with finial. The round stand is supported by swans neck shaped legs raised on scallop shelled shaped feet.
The kettle has a satisfying bulbous look with a fine pouring spout. There
is a deep rim around the lid, which is hinged and domed with a carved
ebonised knob. The rim supports a fluted ribbon handle with an ebonised insert to insulate from heat.
Notes
here has been a repair to the kettle handle where it meets the rim. This repair does not detract from the appeal of the piece and is hardly noticeable. This imperfection is reflected in the price..
No repairs, cleaning or renovations have been carried out by us.
